Real Help for Acne Skin

Acne is a very common skin problem that affects people of all ages, especially young adults. Acne usually appears on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders. It can be categorized by its severity:

Mild Acne describes a few scattered comedones (whiteheads and blackheads).

Moderate Acne refers to a denser collection of comedones as well as, red inflamed lesions.

Severe Acne, also called nodular or cystic acne, describes widespread and deep lesions which are painful, inflamed and red.Acne is a skin condition caused by the over-activity of the glands that secrete an oily substance onto the skin. When pores get blocked, this oil is trapped and bacteria begins to grow. If the pores becomes inflamed a red, swollen pimple appears.

Acne can be caused by a combination of factors including hormone levels, levels of sebum in your skin, stress, harsh products and bacteria in your pores.

While the exact cause of acne is unknown, hormones and genetics definitely play a role in its cause.

Certain medications, greasy cosmetics and creams as well as over cleansing, using exfoliants and not hydrating the skin topically, can also promote acne.

Our Dermal Skin Laser centre professionals offer a variety of treatment options for acne including:

  • Blu-U Acne Therapy
  • Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
  • Clinical Facials
  • Chemical Peels
  • Medical Grade Acne Skin Care Systems
  • Intense Pulsed Light Treatments

Skin Care and Treatments at Any Age

Understanding and treating aging of the skin is an important focus of our work at Dermal Skin Laser Centre. As skin care specialists, we understand how the aging process effects your skin and can make you look years older than you feel. We can recommend the best skin care approach for aging skin along with the most suitable anti-aging procedures and most advanced, medical-grade products to protect your skin and meet all of your skin’s needs. The visible signs of aging cannot be fully avoided, but they can be dramatically minimized. As far as the skin is concerned there are two types of aging – intrinsic and extrinsic.

Intrinsic aging involves the inevitable: as we grow older, our skin naturally becomes thinner and drier. Like any material, collagen is subject to wear and tear: it slowly breaks down over time. Unfortunately, as we age the skin’s ability to replace damaged collagen diminishes and more gaps and irregularities develop in our collagen. Diminished amounts of collagen make the skin less elastic. What used to bounce back begins to sag and become static, and deep wrinkles may begin to appear.

The rate of these events is genetically determined for each person; the process first becomes noticeable between the ages of 30 and 35.

Thus, a comprehensive approach to wrinkle prevention and elimination involves reducing collagen breakdown and increasing its supply.

Extrinsic aging of the skin results from exposure to the environment. Extrinsic aging is the critical element in determining who looks older or younger than their biological age. Exposure to sunlight is the key contributor to extrinsic aging. Photo-aging occurs when elastin and collagen breakdown and are not replaced, causing fine lines and wrinkles to intensify on the skin’s surface. Photo-aging also causes changes in the skin’s pigmentation, which can lead to the development of age spots (sun-induced freckles) and uneven skin tone, spider veins and dilated capillaries, all of which are signs of photo-aged skin.

Many factors that contribute to collagen breakdown can be fully or partially neutralized. They include sun damage, free radicals, some age-related hormonal changes, and smoking. A comprehensive approach to wrinkle prevention and elimination involves reducing collagen breakdown and increasing its supply. Here, we offer you the ABC’s of anti-aging skin:

A is for Vitamin – A (Retinol) is great for increasing the skin’s thickness and repairing collagen tissue in the skin’s Dermis, (the inner layer of the skin). Retinols will exfoliate, correct and stimulate collagen production.

Stimulating collagen synthesis in aging skin has been shown to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. Also, the benefit of stimulating your own collagen production is that collagen is deposited in an orderly, structured manner.

Vitamin A retinol help reduce fine lines, skin texture, pigmentation and elasticity . Regular use of this anti-wrinkle serum will reveal smoother, healthier looking skin. To achieve optimal results, we recommend applying a retinol at bedtime. We recommend Obagi Rejudicare FX, for a Vitamin A Retinol.

B is for Block – The use of a medical-grade sunscreen on a daily basis is one of the most effective and easiest anti-aging steps you can take. Using medial-grade sunscreens will prevent sun damage safely and provide UVA and UVB protection. We recommend Elta MD SPF 30 or higher for the optimal sun protection of your skin.

C is for Vitamin C– One of nature’s most powerful anti-oxidants is Vitamin C. It provides the maximum antioxidant protection against premature aging and environmental factors such as pollution.

Vitamin C can accelerate collagen synthesis especially when other key ingredients are also in abundance.

Vitamin C lightens and brightens skin, reduces inflammation and decreases trans-epidermal water loss, and helps to improve and maintain an even skin tone. For optimal results, it should be applied daily under a moisturizer. We recommend Obagi Vitamin C in 15% or 20%.

At Dermal Skin we only supply high-quality, medical-grade skin care products and offer advice on achieving the correct balance of these products for each individual’s skin type. We work with our clients to develop skin care plans that deliver high quality results.

In addition to using the ABC’s of anti-aging protection, we offer the most advanced anti-aging treatments, including microdermabrasion to reduce fine lines, remove dead cells and exfoliate the skin; chemical peels to rejuvenate the skin; photo rejuvenation to stimulate and rebuild collagen, remove pigmentation and diminish unsightly vessels. As well we offer Botox to smooth away stubborn wrinkles, and Juvederm fillers to plump up deeper lines and wrinkles giving you a more youthful appearance.

Skin Care for Spider Veins and Broken Capillaries

For a variety of reasons including excessive sun exposure, aging, genetics and venous insufficiency, people can suffer from unsightly veins,Many people are troubled by unsightly facial veins. One of the most common conditions is Facial Capillaries, medically known as Telangiectasia. These are fine red capillaries also called “broken” capillaries or “spider veins”.

The most effective way of treating this condition is with vascular laser treatments. These vascular blemishes respond well to IPL Lasers, offered by Dermal Skin Laser Centre. (insert link to IPL).

Vascular Lasers work by producing a light beam that is attracted to the color of the vessels. The light coagulates the blood in the blood vessel and essentially “welds the vessel closed.”

This treatment only takes a few minutes, depending on the number of vessels and the type and size of lesions with minimal side effects. The technology is capable of clearing up or improving nearly any vascular condition including:

  • Facial Hemangiomas
  • Telangiectasias
  • Rosacea – redness of the face
  • Spider Veins
  • Facial Veins

Sun Spots, Brown Spots, Age Spots & Photo Damage

Photo damage or sun damage occurs with exposure to sunlight whether or not we intentionally tan. Despite its many useful functions, skin has very little ability to shield itself against the sun. For the most part these changes occur most frequently on areas that receive chronic exposure including face, chest, neck, the backs of the hands, arms and legs.Photo damage accumulates over a lifetime, building upon itself until it becomes visible or apparent.

One of the most effective ways of treating freckles or brown spots is by using a laser with a precise wavelength specifically attracted to the unwanted spot. Laser removal of these lesions is a quick and relatively comfortable procedure that can effectively remove unwanted lesions safely and permanently in the comfort and privacy of our clinic.

This revolutionary treatment is designed for both men and women wanting to remove a variety of dark pigmented lesions or vascular features.

The laser emits a focused, precise beam of light energy that is absorbed by the pigmented lesion. The unwanted lesion absorbs more light than the normal skin. This results in the thermal destruction of the unwanted lesion, which is eventually removed by the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Photo damage removal with an IPL device is considered the most effective treatment. The procedure is quick, non-invasive with minimal side effects. Two or three IPL treatments will provide dramatic improvements over several weeks.

Redness of the Face

Many people suffer from chronic flushing and diffuse redness of the cheeks, nose and chin often referred to as rosacea. This is a long lasting, non-scarring skin condition of the face the cause of which is not well understood.
