About Levulan Therapy to treat rough scaly patches on skin, Actinic Keratoses, (AK)
What are Actinic Keratoses?
Actinic keratoses (AKs) are dry, scaly, rough-textured patches or lesions that form on the outermost layer of the skin after years of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, such as sunlight. These lesions typically range in color from skin-toned to reddish brown and in size from that of a pinhead to larger than a quarter
“Left untreated AK’s may progress to squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer that can be fatal” American Academy of Dermatology
Benefits of Levulan Therapy
Manage the damage before it becomes too late with Levulan Photodynamic Therapy, the preferred treatment for actinic keratoses, commonly seen as blemished, rough-textured, dry, scaly patches on the skin that can lead to skin cancer.
How does it work?
Levulan PDT, is a 2-part treatment that uses a light activated therapy, BLU-U, blue light, to destroy the actinic keratoses (AK).

What to Expect
Levulan Kerastick Topical Solution is applied to the AK. The solution is then absorbed by the AK cells where it is converted to a chemical that makes the cells extremely sensitive to light. When the AK cells are exposed to the BLU-U blue light illuminator, a reaction occurs which destroys the AK cells.
Low downtime with excellent results.
